A trailer's tack compartment fills up fast with things that never get used. This is what we keep permanently loaded — the short list that actually gets reached for.
Always loaded
- A collapsible water bucket and extra water
- A basic first-aid kit, checked seasonally
- A spare halter and lead
- A hoof pick and basic grooming tools
Seasonal additions
- A cooler or fly sheet, depending on season
- Extra blankets in true winter conditions
Paperwork
- Current Coggins and health papers for every horse that travels
- Emergency contact information, kept current
